Dear Parents,
It was a spooky and fun filled week in Preschool 2! We want to thank you all for the pumpkin donations, as we had a lot of fun exploring the inside and outside of a variety of pumpkins. We also roasted some pumpkin seeds and our preschoolers were very adventurous in trying them! Next week we will continue with a Halloween related theme but focus on the book 'Room on the Broom' by Julia Donaldson. This is an adorable story about a witch who keeps dropping things off of her broom and she is lucky enough to have good friends to help her along the way. If you don't have this book there are many 'read aloud' versions on youtube. Below are more curriculum highlights: Math: Is there room on your broom? (predicting and measuring) Building Rug: Finger puppet theater with story characters Art: Making bowties and magic wands Literacy: Making rhyming words (starting with the '_at' family) Science: Making magic potions Table for Two: Creating a Preschool 2 magic spell book IMPORTANT EVENTS AND REMINDERS: 1. Monday is our annual Halloween Parade. We have attached the flyer again if you need a reminder! Also, if your child would like to wear their costume to school, that is fine. Just be sure to send a change of clothes so we can change after the parade. 2. Apparently the cold weather is here! Please be sure to send in a coat, hat and gloves everyday. Also, please replenish your child's spare clothing bin with long sleeves, pants, etc. The website has been updated with recent pics so be sure to check them out! Have a great weekend! Best, Preschool Two Dear Parents,
Our preschoolers were really using their 'noodles' (brains) this week in Preschool Two! We made and flew our own kites, built houses out of paper, sticks and legos to see which would blow down and . We will shift gears next week by talking about all things spooky. We will start off by reading and re-enacting the 'Five Little Pumpkins'. This is a fan favorite! See some other curriculum highlights below. Dramatic Play: Pumpkin Spice Bakery Water Table: Witches Brew Building Rug: Can you build a gate that will hold five pumpkins? Sensory: Textured spooky playdough (orange and black) Math: Spooky patterns IMPORTANT NEWS AND EVENTS: 1. We have started our preschool sign in at the art table each morning. There will be 2 clipboards, name tags and markers for our preschoolers to write their names. We don't want this to be a source of anxiety for any of our preschoolers and will not pressure them to sign in. We are also available to support them so they feel good about the process and proud of the results! 2. We have Music with Hugh Hanley next Wednesday, October 26th at 11:30am. If this is a day your child does not attend school please feel free to join us. The website has been updated with pictures from the week so be sure to check them out. Have a great weekend! Although it was a short week in Preschool 2, we packed in a lot of action! We started our unit on Electricity and how things work by talking about the different types of energy; electric, wind, water, heat and the sun. We sorted items by things that use power and things that do not and we built our own marble runs. We also had a visit from the Fire Department today which was a huge hit. Pictures will be available on the website this afternoon. We will continue our unit on how things work next week, and discuss electricity as well as wind. Check out our curriculum highlights for next week below: Math: Making discovery bottles using measuring cups Science: Building magnetic robots Small Toys: Robot Carnival Literacy: Can You Fix It? (learning sight words 'yes' and 'no') Table for Two: Making windmills and kites Art: Decorating kites Circle Time: Making a class robot out of boxes, singing the song '5 Little Robots', playing 'One of these things is not like the other' (comparing, contrasting and attributing characteristics to different items) IMPORTANT NEWS AND EVENTS: 1. We need empty water bottles as well as cans for upcoming projects. If you happen to either item for recycling we would gladly use them. 2. Our Listening Conferences will begin next week. If you have not yet signed up for a time slot please make sure to sign up ASAP. 3. We will be having a Halloween Parade on Monday, October 31st. Please see the attached flyer for details. The website has been updated with recent pics so be sure to check them out. Have a great weekend! Best, Lauren, Rachel and Ariana newtonsouthpreschoolprogram.weebly.com Dear Parents,
