Dear Parents,
It was a fun week in Preschool Two. Action packed to say the least. We focused on our field trip the first half of the week and then welcomed Evalyn to our preschool family Thursday and Friday. Next week we will kick off a unit on all things Spring related. We will start by focusing on planting and spend a lot of time outside! On Monday we hope you partner with the Sustainability and Agriculture HS students to transplant some lettuce seedlings and go on a worm hunt. We will also do some planting around the playground, read The Tiny Seed and have a taste test of fruits and veggies that contain seeds. Check out more curriculum highlights below: Dramatic Play: Flower Shop Art: Egg Carton Flowers Playdough: Rainy Day paintings Literacy: Spring felt board stories Sand and Water Table: Pushing together 2 tables to make mud Table for 2: Grass headbands IMPORTANT NEWS AND EVENTS: 1. We need more toilet paper tubes if you happen to run out over the weekend! We will accept all donations. Thanks! 2. We have scheduled the Parent Coffee for Wednesday, May 17th at 8:45am. We will serve some breakfast type treats and coffee. This will be very informal and no commitment needed- feel free to join us even if you don't RSVP! Dear Parents, We are so excited about our field trip! We will going to the Ecotarium on Tuesday, April 25th. The Ecotarium is a science museum geared especially towards preschool age children. It is rarely crowded, has great hands on exhibits, as well as, a fantastic outdoor space. THINGS TO KNOW: -We will depart Newton South at 9:00am on Tuesday the 25th. We ask that you drop your child/children off prior to 9:00am so that they can use the potty and have a few minutes to get ready. -We hope to arrive back at Newton South at 1:30-1:40pm. This time tends to fluctuate as we have to factor in last minute potty trips and traffic. We will do our best to be back by the time suggested. If we are stuck in traffic we will text one of the P1 teachers to let them know. - We have made tie dye t-shirts for all of our preschools so they will be wearing one uniform color. We have 4 teacher chaperones, 11 HS students and 1 parent coming. - Lunches should be sent in brown paper bags and with all disposable items. We cannot promise that Tupperware or water bottles will make it back on the bus. We will provide a snack upon arrival to the museum. - Most importantly- we are going to have lots of fun! Dear Parents,
We had a fun week filled with games. We played an alphabet guessing game called 'Kaboom' (but don't get kaboomed!), ran a relay race, played lots of Candyland and used our listening ears during a parachute game today! When we return from April break we will do a brief unit based on the Ecotarium science museum. We will set up many of our classroom centers as exhibits similar to those at the museum. After our field trip we will embark on a Spring unit. We will focus on weather and all of the things that grow in the spring. We hope to coordinate with the HS foods course 'Sustainable Agriculture' and do some planting in the greenhouse. We will also do lots of activities with squiggly wiggly worms! IMPORTANT NEWS AND EVENTS: 1. We are hoping to incorporate a Geology based center in our classroom after the break. If your preschooler has any cool rocks, crystals or gems they would be willing to let us borrow we would be so grateful! 2. Attached you will find a flyer with further details regarding the field trip. Most importantly- we will be departing South by 9am so please have your child here before 9am so they can use the bathroom. Please review the flyer and let us know if you have questions. 3. Some of you have requested that we resend the HS babysitting list. It is attached to this email. If you need more information regarding who might be a good fit- let us know. Also, if you need any child care coverage over the break, Rhonda Orkin (who also does transportation) is available. Her contact info is 617-962-4046 or [email protected]. Just a reminder- we are closed all next week. We will reopen on Monday April 24th. The website has been updated with recent pics from Barn Babies and Games week. Have a great break! Best, Lauren and Rachel Dear Parents,
It was an action packed week in Preschool 2! We were lucky to have a visit to the high school ceramics room, hosted by Phin's mom, Megan (an art teacher here at South). Each of our preschoolers had their own piece of clay to work with and the creativity was fantastic. It was so interesting to see where each of our preschoolers took their vision. We are hoping to paint our creations next week and then we will send them home. Check out the website for pics! We continued our unit on Mangrove/ Swamps this week by measuring our frog jumps, pretending to be baby hatchlings, painting swamp scenes with water colors and using directional words such as above, below, under, next to and on top. Next week we will do a brief unit on 'Games'. Developmentally our preschoolers are so ready to play board games as well as sports (and explore the concept of winning vs. losing). We will also play lots of team games and work on cooperation and teamwork. IMPORTANT NEWS AND EVENTS: 1. We will be closed Next Friday, April 14th on observance of Good Friday. We will be open for a full day until 4pm on Thursday, April 13th. 2. We will be closed the following week for April vacation, April 17th- April 21st. 3. Barn Babies will be coming to visit us next Wednesday, April 12th at 9:30am. The website has been updated with recent pics so be sure to check them out. Have a great weekend!
