Hi Everyone,
Our preschoolers have been loving this unit so far! We saw plenty of creative building, teamwork and some awesome pirate costumes. The kids loved making eye patches and 'hooks' to put on their hands. Our pirate ship in dramatic play has been on lots of treasure hunts this week! We practiced our 'R' words by talking like pirates and making the 'arrr' sound whenever we saw the letter 'R'. We also introduced a 'Circle of Control' chart with things we can control in the inside of the circle and things we cannot control on the outside of the circle. Our friends knew right away things like doing our hardest work, keeping our hands to ourselves, and listening were things that belonged in the inside of the circle while the weather, things our friends do/say and the way we look belonged on the outside of the circle. Next week, we will continue to focus on books that go against the typical gender stereotypes. We will be reading the Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch and Iggy Peck, Architect by Andrea Beaty. We will also be reading The Most Magnificent Thing by Ashley Spires. In light of the Paper Bag Princess, we will compare a princess we normally see in books and the paper bag princess and we will have a fashion show with paper bag dresses/vests. We will also be doing another team building activity where we build with all of the different materials used in the Iggy Peck, Architect book (pancakes, toothpicks, twigs, rulers and crayons). At the end of the week, we will make a graph of our favorite character from all of the books we've read. Below are some special dates and reminders for the month.
As always, if you have any questions for this upcoming month, we are happy to help! Hi Everyone,
We can't believe how fast October went by! We had such a great time wrapping up our spooky theme with the Halloween Parade. Our Preschoolers did a great job walking through the school and collecting their treats in their awesome costumes. We made a separate post just for the Halloween Parade on the website. The kids are really loving the Candyland theme so far! They are having a great time making their M&M's Book where they sort, graph and make a picture with their M&M's (and of course eat them after). We have seen lots of candy Kings & Queens in our Dramatic Play area this week too! We will continue our Candyland theme next week and start the week off with some sour, sweet and salty taste testing. We will also make some homemade ice cream and graph our votes on the types of candy we like (Fruity or Chocolate).
